Looking for Friday’s NYT Connections hints, clues and answers instead? You can find them here:
Your Saturday Connections answers are here and I’m going to put this one at about a medium difficulty with a somewhat tricky purple group, more than usual, I’d say.
How to Play Connections
Connections is the second-most popular NYT Games puzzle game outside of the main crossword itself, and an extremely fun, free offering that will get your brain moving every day. Play it right here.
The goal is to take a group of 16 words and find links between four pairs of four of them. They could be specific categories of terms, or they could be little world puzzles where words may come before or after them you need to figure out. And they get more complicated from there.
There is only one set of right answers for this, and you only get a certain number of tries so you can’t just spam around until you find something. There are difficulty tiers coded by color, which will usually go from yellow, blue/green to purple as difficulty increases, so know that going in and when you start linking them together.
You pick the four words you think are linked and either you will get a solve and a lit up row that shows you how you were connected. If you’re close, it will tell you that you’re one away. Again, four mistakes you lose, but if you want to know the answers without failing, either come here, or delete your web cookies and try again. If you want to play more puzzles, you can get an NYT Games subscription to access the full archives of all past puzzles. So, onto the hints and answers:

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?
The full-on answers are below for each group, finally inserting the four words in each category. Spoilers follow if you do not want to get this far. The Connections answers are:
- Blue Group: Predict (CALL, DIVINE, FORECAST, READ)
- Yellow Group: Ruptured (BLEW, BROKE, BURST, SPLIT)0
- Green Group: Apparition (SHADE, SPECTER, SPIRIT, WIGHT)
- Purple Group: “Best ____ Performance” Grammy Award (AMERICANA, CHORAL, JAZZ, RAP)
I was actually tripped up by the supposedly easy Blue Group this week, as I just didn’t think to group CALL and READ with the other two, which seemed more aligned with the central theme. I understand how they fit together now, but I was thinking more phone calls or book reading before that.
Yellow Group may have been the easiest this week as I supposed this could apply to a number of things ranging from balloons to boilers in some instances. These were hard to pair with other words here if Connections was trying to be tricky, as it often is, so I don’t think this was the hardest group.
Green Group brought me back to my days of playing Elder Scrolls where I was forced to whack WIGHTS with my sword and shield. There, Wights were more like skeletal zombies than ghosts, however, but I suppose it’s close enough. The other three are pretty well connected so this wasn’t too bad.
Purple Group was somewhat difficult for me, as at least three of those there are usually not given out on stage at the Grammys, and I didn’t even know there were AMERICANA and CHORAL categories. RAP is usually the only one that makes the main stage, but I guess they have a long, long list of genres that they hand out behind the scenes, as many awards shows do.
What did you think of this week’s puzzle? It tripped me up more than a few times, but I got there in the end. Hopefully you did as well, and these hints may have helped you along.
