Starting in early 2024, Henry McMaster (R), South Carolina’s governor, was the chair of the Southern Regional Schooling Board Fee on Synthetic Intelligence in Schooling.
In his function, McMaster convened with different training and enterprise leaders to chart a course for using AI in lecture rooms and to arrange the workforce for the know-how.
“When used appropriately, AI is a robust software able to reshaping our training system,” McMaster wrote. “By working collectively, we will overcome the challenges that AI presents and harness its energy to make sure our college students are ready for the workforce of the long run.”
Typically, McMaster is cautious towards speeding into authorities regulation on AI, arguing that politicians do not have a complete understanding yet of its advantages and downsides.
Relating to his view on information facilities, McMaster mentioned in late September that he doesn’t plan to name for a statewide information middle moratorium.
The state homes three of Google’s information facilities, which opened in 2007. In 2024, the corporate introduced it could set up two new information middle campuses within the state, a mixed funding of $3.3 billion.
“Google’s newest funding will strengthen South Carolina’s place as an rising chief in know-how and innovation,” McMaster wrote in a statement.
